Fresh Rain Scent

I really do enjoy the smell of rain, and the earthy smell of the ground after rainfall. I like how rain scrubs everything clean and gives you a new perspective. I like the sensation of raindrops hitting my body and reminding me of the connectedness of the world.

About the only thing I don’t like about rain is stepping on snails and worms. Or the wet sock feeling I get because my shoes are a little old and water gets in too easily. If only I had no feet, rain would be perfect. Hmm… I was going to use this rain stuff to launch into a metaphor, but I got caught up in the sensory exploration.

Oh yeah! :points up:

So when Tony was interviewing me yesterday, one of his questions was, “Could you ever just pick up and move to a new city by yourself and start a completely new life?” I told him it was be particularly hard for me to do something like that.

I’m the kind of person who has a few really good friends, rather than a lot of acquaintances. It would be hard to leave those friends and my family behind. And it would be even harder to make new ones. I’m definitely not the type of person who can just walk up to someone I don’t know and strike up a conversation. I’m horrible at generating topics for discussion, I tend to answer questions succinctly, and I’m never quite sure how “open” to be with people.

One of the reasons I really like Hustle is because I idolize con men and their unique skill set. How awesome would it be to be able to “cold read” someone, become their best friend after a single conversation, and maybe get them to make you rich? :)

The Vassar Book Club book on non-verbal communication is helping me a bit, and I’m thinking about reading The Game after this.

What else do you guys think would help me grow in this aspect of my life?

Tied Up Too Tight

It’s been a long and up-and-down day for me.

Woke up at around 8, which gives me about seven hours of sleep. Just shy of the sixteen Peggy demanded of me. Called her up, and she seemed to be sleeping instead of studying like she should have been. Got her to come to my place so I could keep an eye on her and make sure she stayed on track. :)

She studied and I read for a while. Then it was time for her final, so I took her to campus. On my way home, stopped by Farmer’s Market at Central Park, as well as Drew’s actual work place on 4th, but I didn’t see him at either, so went home slightly disappointed.

Had lunch, and tried to read, but I got a bit of food coma. I guess my body’s not used to more than one meal in twenty-four hours again. Yeah, I know. Weirdness. Especially coming from me. But yeah, I napped for a while.

Woke up and watched TV for a bit. Simpsons and That 70s Show. They are good, but they just aren’t as good to me anymore. King of Queens was alright. Malcolm in the Middle and Seinfeld were just awkward. I didn’t know if I should laugh or cringe.

Luckily, Aaron L came over a little after that. I guess he pulled into town, but didn’t find much to do at Chaparral. We chatted for a bit. Mostly about his Xanga post. That’s where quote comes from.

How do you think I rate on the incest scale?”

- Aaron L.

I think you’re worse than Clayton/Michelle, but better than Steph/Tony because…”

- Me, babbling.

I think I’m worse than Steph/Tony. She’s my kid, my square, for all intents and purposes my little, and four years younger than me.”

- Aaron L.

OK, you’re right. You are the worst. Monster!”

- Me.
Which he is. But Thu H would be happy. She’s all about keeping it in the family.

So after that, we picked up Thu H, Drew, and James R. Brought them all back to my place for a little alcoholic entertainment. Mostly because Thu H couldn’t get into Sudwerks.

But it’s all good. We played 7 – 11-2x. First time I really saw James R drink. He gets a big belligerent. :) I’d like to think I played fair and did fair, but I got pretty buzzed. We killed all the Miller Lite left over from Victoria’s party. It was nearly a full thirty pack.

I broke the seal and had to run to the bathroom every three minutes. On one of the trips, stopped at the computer. Drunk talked to Peggy for a while.

Kitty, Terren, and… I always forget his name, but Terren’s friend came over. Apparently Terren deleted some crucial system files because some tech support guy was an idiot and told her to do so. They tried to get the files from my computer, but couldn’t find them.

Everyone went to Kittty’s apartment for a bit. Then they came back. And somehow brought more people with them. I’m not sure why, but Steph Liu, Tony W, Will O, and Mo were over there. But then Genie woke up and scared them all away. Meaning to my place. We talked some more. People shuffled off to bed.

Now I’m alone here, writing this post so no one will yell at me when I wake up late in the morning.

Set Phasers To Stun

After all, I don’t want to kill my LB. I just want him to have a memorable Secret Week. :) Oh, by the way, I’ll be updating the backlog in somewhat reverse order. First the days of Secret Week that have already gone by, then Chi, then last week.

I guess that puts me at Sunday. It’s a good thing I had suggested that we leave at 10 in the morning. We didn’t finish checking out and such, meaning the cars didn’t roll out of the hotel parking lot, until about 11. Julie C was lead car the whole time in LA, so I offered for Joe M’s car to be lead on the way back. Sucker… we got the simple lead. The hotel was only about a block away from the 405 entrance, and it’s all just north from there. :)

Wanted to eat at a diner along the way, but when Joe M stopped in the Santa Clarita area because he didn’t want to go through the Grapevine with little to no gas, the line for Denny’s was out the door, so we ended up going to Burger King instead. Quote came while we were eating together there -

Isn’t it great to eat at a place where they don’t look like they’re all about to kill themselves?”- Joe M.

It’s true… the employees actually looked happy… they were smiling and stuff. A big change form the typical Davis employees. Something even funnier that I can’t really work into a quote while we were there is the fact that Brandon gets performance anxiety in the bathroom. And there was someone cleaning out the stalls while he had to go.

The ride back was pretty uneventful. Got into Davis around 4:45. Joe M dropped me off at my place, and I took a shower and got my first clues ready. BComm was cancelled because Peggy wasn’t back in town yet. Was gonna go to ExComm to plant my clues on people. Got there late because I forgot I had to get gas. The pledge meeting went pretty fast. Family Revealing was… eh. I hate that Loose was the last of the three families in the line. By the time our pledges got to us, they were rejected twice already. There’s no mystery left, either. They just get the blue bottom of the barrel family. Now that I think about it… was Loose ever first for Family Revealing? Whatever… Loose family got the coolest kids, and everyone knows it! Especially Chris Takemori, who literally kidnapped Eddy off the floor of the meeting. :)

After Revealing was the first Loose Family Event, Woodstock’s! Stupid Close Family followed us, though. Stop trying to steal our cool LBs, people! A lot of fun clues in Loose. Ray had shout, “Penis!” Eddy had to sing “Bingo.” Aiza had to use cheesy pick-up lines on all the actives. My clue wasn’t a task this time, so no fun stuff for the actives to do or watch. It was just a hard clue; I used a special pen that has invisible ink that only shows up under a black light. I’m positive he didn’t get it at pizza night.

After that, went home and went online. Signed on the secret SN to talk to Tommy some more. I gave him an indirect clue on how to get both parts of the paper; asked if he had seen Saw, because the killer used glow-in-the-dark paint to leave a clue in that movie. Even told him the same hint as in the movie… “Sometimes you have to close your eyes to see the light,” or something to that effect. Went to Joe M’s place because I forgot to give him his USB drive full of animé at the meeting. Fixed his apartment’s internet and made the wireless secure. Watched Bleach 26 with him and then went home. Talked to some other people, watched Grey’s Anatomy 3, and then passed out.

Then yesterday… was only going to work on the website for a bit in the morning, but catching up on all the mailing list stuff took longer than I expected. Went home home to pick up some vegan Viet food my mommy made for me. I asked her for a recipe that I could do myself, but she was already making some vegan food for a family ritual, so she just made some extra for me. Stopped to get some soy milk at SF market. Back to Davis to help Peggy make cards for BComm, but she cancelled it, because there weren’t any new ones this week.

Back to the apartment and printed up some clues for Tommy. Got a medicine ball from Big 5 on the way to Mommy Van’s place. Dropped off my clues and gifts to Jackie, filled my candy jar with special stuff, and got a ride with Mommy Tang from Mommy Van to the meeting. Found some pledges going to the wrong room on the way and corrected them. The meeting itself went really fast, and then it was time for Loose Family Event #2!

Our event was just a potluck at Chaparral Lounge. I brought some vegan noodles for Tommy and gave them to Jackie. She claimed my noodles and I claimed her pasta. The pledges played charades, but it was apparently too easy, so everyone was a winner. Then they played Chubby Bunny, and David Y’s team won. Then it was AvP Chubby Bunny, and Clint won for us. No piñata this time, because we didn’t have a rope. :( Had some good task clues again. Aiza had to booty scoop all the actives. (I didn’t actually see her do it, though. :( ) Chris had to blow bubbles and sing “Pop goes the weasel.” Joey had to hunt down some Rock’em Sock’em robots. And of course Tommy had to keep the medicine ball away from the actives. He hid it for a good part of the night in his car. Clint and I were a bit disappointed, but were going to let it go, too, because we never said he couldn’t do that. But for some reason, he did bring the ball back out at one point. And then it was madness. First Alison and Jane L chased him around, and that got the attention of the Loose males, who circled around and basically gang-raped him. That’s about the point where last night’s quote happened -

Wait, wait, wait…”- Tony W, breaking his way to the middle of the circle of guys attacking Tommy…
OK, video footage. Continue.”- Tony W, pulling out the camera.

Then it was Tommy and Cedric one-on-one for a while. It’s a shame Jackson wasn’t there for it. I think he would have made the difference. But that’s OK… Tommy earned his good clue. :)

After the family event, helped clean up a bit and got some gifts and went home. Talked online until I passed out and somehow manage to get onto my bed.
