Hacker Diet Update - Week 5

Time for another update.

Keep going! 30.1 lbs to go!
Hacker's Diet Week 5
Weekly loss: 1.9 lbs. — Daily deficit: 937 calories.
You will reach your goal of 155 lbs on 2009-05-29. (217 days early!)

I barely made progress this week. So far, I’ve lost 13.4 lbs of measured weight (1 lb in the last week) and 10 lbs of “real weight” (1.5 lbs in the last week). When I was doing the family challenge, I had actually lost 12 lbs at this point, so I guess I’m slightly ahead still. I did get my “real weight” under the obese line, and hopefully I can just keep moving it lower and lower.

As you can see, this was quite a roller-coaster week for me. The weekend measurements were skewed because I took the Sunday one on Sunday night when I got back home from Reno/Tahoe, and averaged the difference for Saturday’s weight. The weights in the week are also a little weird because I would weigh in at different times depending on if I had work or not. Not much of a difference, but I swear there is.

Anyway, the real reason for my problems this week is self-control. I went to two buffets, once in Reno with the guys and again in Davis for Tommy L’s birthday. Both times, I think my thriftiness got in the way of my portion control, and I ate more than I should have to get “my money’s worth.” I really need to focus on the long-term instead of short-term gains. I also had trouble keeping an established exercise pattern during the start of my work. Hopefully Don’t Break The Chain will help with that.

As this seems to be the start of birthday season, and I do have more money thanks to my gainful employment now, I really need to watch myself as I go out with friends and control my eating and drinking.

Control Yourself, Take Only What You Need From It

I went to Davis to hang out with Tommy L and Gloria B for their birthday today. Wiggy S and Cin S were at Tommy L’s dinner, so it was cool to catch up with them. I got to meet Yance, Cin S’s boyfriend, who knows a lot of the people I know, but we haven’t met before.

Found out that Davis Sushi Buffet has a better vegetarian menu than most sushi places. When you ask for vegetarian options at other places, they usually only have futomaki, which is some pickled vegetables inside rice with a ring of nori around the whole thing. Some places “experiment” with other vegetables, but the generic maki roll is about all you’ll get anywhere. Davis Sushi has the Vegetable Dragon Roll, the only vegetarian specialty roll I’ve ever had. It’s cucumber and tempura yams inside with avocado and teriyaki sauce on top. Nothing earth-shattering to write home about, but it’s definitely nice to have the option.

Afterwards, I took Gloria B to a potluck with her high school friends. Stepped inside to say hi, and it hit me how out of place I am in Davis now. I think that’s a good thing, but I’m not sure. Sign of maturity, or just regression into further social awkwardness?

Oh, and I got sucked into an episode of Love Of Money 2. So I broke the Week Without TV, and it was only the second day! And for a show like that… what a waste. I’ve got good stuff just sitting on my computer, waiting for next Monday. Hopefully I’ll do better for the rest of the week.
