Brown Boxes

Good lord, this is the last bandwagon I want people jumping on.

Let’s see… yesterday morning… I woke up around 8. Read Cryptonomicon in bed until a little before 10. Went to wake up Thuong T, but she was already up. Went online and the first IM I get is from Peggy S telling me to post. So I do. Followed by checking up on other people’s blogs. Including Joz’s, which I haven’t been to in a while. She’s got a post about the world’s ugliest dog. It reminds me of the rat monkey claymation monster from Dead Alive. It’s scary that such a thing could exist in this world.

Anyways, went back to the book after that. That’s basically all I did all day, expect for my brief moment of human contact when Peggy S came over to pick up Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

At 5 I went downstairs to watch Simpsons, and got ready to go to Alison W’s farewell dinner during That 70s Show. I was one of the first to get there, so I helped Alison W carry the food from her place out to the picnic area and got the grill going. She had SO much food! Hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken and ribs that she had made ahead of time, too. The ribs were awesome, by the way… and a family secret of hers, so if you didn’t come try them yesterday, you’re SOL now.

I had fun cooking and chilling. Quote comes from a random conversation I overheard as I went near Almira V to get a drink.

Did you know Esther P has climbed Half Dome?
Did you know Esther P used to be on the track team?
Did you know Esther P showered in the middle of the street in Mexico?”

- Almira V.

Are you playing ‘Two Truths and a Lie’ ?”

- Me.

Sorry Esther P, but all of those things seem very implausible.

Oh, and if I could record sound effects, I would have a second quote from when Esther P bonked herself and then Dorothea C on the head with an empty water bottle and asked everyone around them which sounded hollower.

Soon, it got dark and people slowly wandered home. The remainder of the APhiO crowd went with Alice C over to Thoreau to check out her KHOP living space. It’s nice, except for the current lack of AC.

Then back to the picnic area, and we decided to go to Café Bernardo’s, since I still owed Alison W a wikki from our birthdays. :) We got there just at last call, and got five wikkis with only three IDs. And then the bartender forgot to charge us. Or maybe he was just hitting on Dorothea C in her hot Doraemon shirt. No one actually downed their drink with me, though. I was sad… you ruin the wikki by not downing it! Well, not “ruin,” but it definitely tastes best if you down it immediately, giving the ingredients no time to settle and separate.

Oh, and I know all the ingredients except for one now! The bartender use vodka, (some other clear liquor) gin, white tequila, triple sec, clear rum, amaretto, orange juice, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, and 151 in the straw. And this one didn’t bother with the jigger; he just poured straight from the bottle into the straws. (He did have a pourer on the bottle, though. It would be MAD skillz if he didn’t.) I’m guessing the last item is either more vodka, or maybe gin. I’m gonna have to experiment.

After the wikki’s, I think originally the plan was to go to Sophia’s, but interest seemed low, so we all went home. Took a shower, and then chatted online with Peggy S until sunrise.

Best of luck to you in LA, Alison W!

Red Light Pledge

Hey everyone, I’m back! And you know what that means… time to ‘net it to the max to make up for Minnesota. :)

So… was pretty restless Wednesday night with weird dreams and such. Woke up around 6, and lay around until 9. Had a banana and some brie for breakfast, and played some N64 games with Anh Bi because Cau Minh was late picking us up to go work. Did surprisingly well at original Smash Bros and Mario Kart. Not so hot on Mario Golf or the NHL game. Di Ngoc swung by after a while, and we were off. We got there before Cau Minh got back from work, so sat there for a while, had Viet sandwiches for lunch and played some chess.

Cau Minh finally came home and supervised. The second PODS contained the fridge, freezer, washer, dryer, and all the mattresses and sofas. Oh, and the piano. That was fun. Especially since Cau Minh’s driveway isn’t paved yet, so we had to haul all this stuff over gravel to the front door without dropping and potentially scratching anything.

For dinner, Di Hai treated the entire extended family out to a Chinese restaurant called Seafood Palace. The ride there was quite interesting. Cau Minh was the lead car from his house, and Michael Lu (who just got his license) was in the middle position, and I was in Cau Thuong’s car, which was bringing up the rear. Cau Minh would keep running yellows, forcing Michael Lu to speed to make the yellow, and forcing Cau Thuong to run reds. (No one in our car was a native, so we couldn’t afford to get left behind.) Quote comes from the conversation in our car -

Man, Cau Minh is the worst lead car ever.”

- All of us.

When we get there, we should blame everything on Michael Lu.”

- Cau Thuong.

Stupid Minnesotan drivers!”

- Me, commenting on random other drivers’ skills.

Yeah, the drivers in these parts are retarded.”

- Anh Bi.

They are!”

- Me, pointing out another bad driver.

I meant American drivers.”

- Anh Bi.

Hey!”

- Di Tien.

OK, actually, I meant [Dinh].”

- Anh Bi.

Oh, OK.”

- Di Tien.

What a loving aunt, huh?

The food at the place when we finally got there was decent. Something that bugged me, though… I was at the kiddie table because they didn’t have enough room at the adult table, and I noticed some of my little cousins have really bad table manners. Like the one next to me picked at a lot of the food, took only the cream cheese wontons and left the other appetizers, “fished” for big pieces of meat, and was constantly hitting me because he kept swinging his arms and legs. What really got me, though, was when they brought out oranges and fortune cookies at the end of the meal, and he grabbed two, so I had to go without. I’ve never seen anyone do that before. Especially with a fortune cookie. Yeah, it’s only a stupid cookie, and I wouldn’t have minded if he just asked me for mine first, but he just took it and cracked that sucker open without so much as a glance in my direction. Freaking brat.

After dinner, went with Chi Hai back to her place. Chilled there and went online and posted while she waited for her maid of honor to get in town. Then we went out with her friends and Chi Ba to a club called Escape. It was like Minneapolis’ version of the Rage. It was $1 drinks before midnight, too, so my cousins got pretty hammered. I didn’t feel much like drinking, so I just kinda stood around. Got a call from Peggy, so I went outside to talk to her for a while. She wanted to focus on driving home after a while, though, so I let her go and went back inside. It was getting close to to 1, and we decided to wander over to the Imperial Room, a bar that Chi Hai frequents. Chilled there and had some $4 pizza slices from the place next door.

Eventually the drivers sobered up enough, so we went home. Anh Bi and I went back to Chi Ba’s place, and he knocked out immediately on the couch. Snored up a storm, too, so I couldn’t sleep. Talked to Peggy some more, since she was home home now. Ended up passing out around 4 again.

Speak Easy

Man, Peggy S’s such a slave-driver. She threatened to never talk to me until I update. So now I guess I have to. But what to write about? I guess I’ll cover Sunday…

Hmm… woke up at 7. Hopped online to find that Peggy S was still up. She had pulled another all-nighter and had just finished her project. I told her to take a nap before Amber W’s graduation, but she insisted on staying up to make a poster for her, too. Got ready for my long day and bummed around online, because my mom was going to stop by on the way to taking my sister to the airport to give me my ticket and talk to me about some family stuff.

Finished up the family business at 10:30, and hurried to Kinko’s to print out my project. I noticed that the printer they have there is the same exact one my dad has at home home. Too bad I didn’t have time to go home and print it myself. Anyways, he told me the pictures were a bit pixelated, so I ran home and tried to touch it up as best I could. Got back there and gave him a higher resolution form of the project, and he told me it would be done by 1:30. It was 11:45.

I hurried over to campus, hoping I could still make it to get a picture with Amber W out on the lawn after she walked. Got a great parking spot and ran around the Pavilion a couple of times, but didn’t see anyone I knew, so went to Hunan’s. Saw Peggy S and Jackie H drive off as I made the turn out of the parking lot, so I knew I made the right call. Stalked them all the way downtown. Lunch was cool, except I don’t think Amber W’s mom is particularly into Chinese food. And possibly was overwhelmed by the Asian in her life.

After lunch, went back to Kinko’s and added my project to Peggy S’s. Then we went to Jackie H’s to pass out for a bit, since we couldn’t get into the actually 2 PM graduation ceremony. Went after, though to take pictures outside again. Met Kitty K’s family. The genes are strong. Just like Jenny L’s family. Peggy S gave her project to Thuong T and went home.

A bunch of us went to Dos Coyotes and Coldstone’s after. Alice C, Drew M, Jackie H, Jen L, and I split an Ultimate Bucket. aBB managed to disturb small children the vicinity with her dirtiness.

Oh no, I got creamy white stuff on myself!”

- Alice C.

Uh… do you realize what you said?”

- Us.

No, not at all. Now I’m putting these yummy nuts in my mouth!”

- Alice C.

Good lord!”

- Us.

Mothers were quickly dragging their infants away from earshot. We went our separate ways after we killed the bucket… I went with Alice C to 49er video so she could use my account to rent some movies, and then I went home. Tried to cheer up Peggy S for a bit, but it didn’t seem to work. Random stuff online.

Some people went to see Batman, but I was too tired, and didn’t feel like paying full price again. Ended up taking a nap that lasted until 1:45 in the morning. Talked online some more. Finally passed out for good around 4:30.
