Hacker Diet Update - Week 7

Time for another update.

Keep going! 25.4 lbs to go!
Hacker's Diet Week 7
Weekly loss: 2.5 lbs. — Daily deficit: 1269 calories.
You will reach your goal of 155 lbs on 2009-05-01. (245 days early!)

As you can see, I’m missing today’s entry. There’s no scale at Jeremy J’s place and I don’t know if I will get to one today. (I used the one at Andrew P’s place for yesterday’s measurement.) I didn’t do anything extraordinary yesterday, though, so there shouldn’t be much of a problem.

So far, I’ve lost 18.8 lbs of measured weight (1.6 lbs in the last week) and 14.7 lbs of “real weight” (2.2 lbs in the last week). When I was doing the family challenge, I had lost 12 lbs at this point, and was at the beginning of a backslide.

I had a spike in my measurements over the weekend once again this week. I think it’s because my family is home and eating every meal, so it’s harder for me to skip meals. Do you know how hard it is to ignore your stomach when you wake up to the smell of bacon? Besides he actual food temptations, though, meals are a time when my family gets together and talks, so I don’t want to miss out on that. I just need to be prepared with a big glass of water to help control my baser instincts.

Despite that, though, progress is decent. Aaron L mentioned it to me at karaōke, and I was a bit surprised since I haven’t really seen a difference in myself yet. I mean, I see the numbers going down, but when I look at myself in a mirror, I don’t really see a change. I am still going strong and should have no problem hitting my goal of being under 175 by the end of the month.

Hacker Diet Update - Week 3

Here’s the latest update!

Keep going! 34.1 lbs to go!
Hacker's Diet Week 3
Weekly loss: 2.7 lbs. — Daily deficit: 1353 calories.
You will reach your goal of 155 lbs on 2009-04-21. (255 days early!)

Minor update on the graph, I’ve added lines to show the barriers between BMI ranges that show up between your current and goal weights.

So far, I’ve lost 8.7 lbs of measured weight (2.2 lbs in the last week) and 6 lbs of “real weight” (2.7 lbs in the last week). That’s good progress, but I feel like I could have done a lot better.

I was going alright until around the 186 lb “barrier,” where I seemed to stall a little. At first, I think it was just an issue of water weight. I really wanted to end the week under 186, though, because that’s the BMI barrier for my height between “obese” and “overweight.”

The real trouble started on Wednesday night, though. I went to Davis to hang out because Drew M came back to town. Told myself I would only have one drink, but ending up sampling three types of Chimay with Drew M and Aaron L. To make things worse, I had drunk munchies and scarfed down fries and M&Ms afterwords.

Then, I was stranded in Davis because I carpooled with Joe M out but was going to come back with Will N, but he decided to spend the night. Spent all day in Davis and didn’t really drink water throughout the day, so I was pretty hungry when dinner time came. Had fries for an appetizer and a larger meal than I should have. Then I had hella water afterwards because the food was pretty salty to me.

Anyway, Thursday’s weight is skewed because I took it after I got home on Thursday night, with a stomach full of food and water. A day of mistakes drove my progress backwards by several pounds, so lesson learned — my self-control goes to shit when out with friends. I don’t want to become a hermit, so I really need to be aware and watch out for that in the future.

I’m going to try to ramp up my exercise program, so hopefully I’ll have better news to report next week.

Soft Focus

My lack of focus is causing some problems. I’m trying to find a job right now to hold me over, but my psych degree doesn’t mean much, and my computer science skills aren’t good enough to get a job in that field, either.

I do have two little programming projects going, though. First one is Assassins for the APhiO site. Should be simple, just need to update existing code to reflect Aaron L’s new rules. Second one is another diet site for my family, based on the Hacker’s Diet that I’ve been doing. That one should be more interesting. It’s going to be based on the Hacker’s Diet WordPress plug-in, but also combined with some of the features from my original family weight challenge site and including some features that the plug-in author hasn’t implemented yet, including switching from JPGraph to YUI Chart, which is a lot more “Web 2.0.”

If only I make a living on projects like that.
