I suppose I should write a post before I go to sleep so I don’t wake up to some hate-comments gently reminding me I’m late again. I feel like a certain white rabbit.
OK, so… today…
Woke up at 8:30 and DIDN’T go online. Not immediately, anyway. I hopped in the shower first. Then went online, but only to look up some roster info. Called up some folks, and then I was off. Picked up Aiza, Randy, and Titty, and left for Old Sacramento. The greatest place on Earth.
Got there a little early. We actually beat the contact there. Met her and set up at our new location. It’s close to the old one, but now it’s at the little park area where the divers were before. Selling ducks this time was actually a lot better than last weekend. It was cooler, and there was a breeze. That helped a ton! We had the shade of trees, too. There were less people, but they seemed nicer overall.
The contact paid for our lunch, too. We were wandering around not sure where to eat, and I randomly decided on Buffalo Bob’s, which was nearest to us. Bad call. I dunno how their ice cream is, but their sandwiches… definitely not the best in town as advertised. How bad was it? You’ll have to see the quote.
“If you have to yak, turn that way.”- Aiza to Titty, who had just turned green in the middle of her tuna salad sandwich. (She was pointing away from herself, and towards Randy.)
“No, if you need to yak, turn that way.”
- Randy, pointing back at Aiza.
“Don’t worry guys, if I need to yak, I’ll run.”
- Titty.
“Wait… do you really need to?”
- Randy.
“Yeah. Eat the rest of my sandwich for me?”
- Titty.
“Uh…”
- Randy, sniffing it carefully before eating it.
“If you two both yak, we’ll know it was bad tuna. But if you and Dinh yak, we’ll know it was the hot sauce.”
- Aiza, being very Columbo.
But fortunately, no one yakked. Not even Titty. So I guess we’ll never know why she felt nauseated. But it probably has something to do with the fact that she got almost as little sleep as me the night before.
The best part, though, was the ducks. The contact brought some rubber ducks out, and we were able to lay them out and use them as incentives in an up-sale program. Buy a Quack Pack and get a souvenir duck. Yay! It’s like six for the price of four! Oh, speaking of which, I realized that a Quack Pack (even before the bonus souvenir duck) was a better deal than the Quacker’s Dozen. It’s basically buy four get one free, while the Dozen is buy five get one free. Who thought of this?
We didn’t do a count this time, but should have been in the vicinity of a hundred ducks sold again. Not too shabby for four people’s work. (Well, five, if you count Ian, but he was only there for a couple of hours.)
Packed up shop and took the crew home at 4. Basically after that, I played the waiting game. Peggy needed to get back to Davis as soon as possible. Talked to her online for a bit, and she hounded me to update, so I did. Then she went to dinner, and I lounged around for a bit. Read a couple of pages of Cryptonomicon, but it just wasn’t happening.
Phimphao dropped by and gave me some stuff. She has a project for me, too. Merry called me up and asked to borrow the Trooper for the purpose of taking Maggie’s couch and some of Mommy Van’s couches. Which I guess are really Aaron L’s. What am I going to sit on when I visit my mommy now?! Just kidding… I haven’t been invited to either mom’s place in ages. And if I was, I’d be more than happy to prostrate myself on the ground in front of them.
Went back home and showered and folded up some laundry that’s been sitting around for a while. Watched the new Naruto and Bleach. Peggy finally got there and we watched A Tale of Two Sisters. Except we both fell asleep again.
ops: Peggy went home to sleep in her own bed, and now I’m here… once again, playing the waiting game.
