The Magic In Me

I picked up Magic: The Gathering — Duel of the Planeswalkers (quite a mouthful!) recently when it was on sale on Steam. I’m pretty disappointed that the game only lets you use pre-made decks instead of making your own. You can’t even mix-and-match cards in existing decks to make new ones. But I’m even more disappointed that Dong Ha’s housemates all seem to think I’m playing Yu-Gi-Oh or Pokemon.

Al the same, I’ve been playing it a little every night, trying to unlock all the cards. I’m almost there, and considering picking up the expansions. Any word on if the new decks/cards are any good?

Anyway, I’ll close with a song:

(I had no idea that was Rivers Cuomo until I looked up the song for this post.)

Oh, and of course, if you fancy a match, hit me up on Steam! My username is Dinhternet. (I’m looking at you, Elyson S!)

Against Advice Of Counsel

There’s a lot of advice out there that changing themes is a bad idea. It costs you readers because every theme has unique subtle quirks, so things will look or behave differently when you switch. My own advice from last week also applies — changing the look is just a weak deflection from deeper troubles like boredom and lack of content.

Despite all that, I felt this place could use a little sprucing up, so I decided to change up the theme I was using here on Dinhternet. While I’m at it, I’m also going to remove the Google Adsense. There’s not nearly enough traffic on this site to make that annoyance worth it anyway.

So, if you see any weirdness, please let me know.

Schooled

No good news to report yet. :/I am back to get my posts up to date, though.

Today, I played StarCraft 2 for the first time. (Well, online anyway. I did a couple of single-player missions on a guest account of Eddie C’s before.) I bit the bullet and got myself a copy of StarCraft 2, since all my friends were playing it.

It was actually a hard decision. You see, back when the original StarCraft came out, I was a huge proponent of Total Annihilation, another RTS that came out at the same time. The scope, the flow, the constant updates, the myriad tactics the units offered… I loved it. My friends at the time were pretty split, so I had both, but I always preferred TA over SC.

Then Supreme Commander 1 and 2 came out, and none of my friends played those. The RTS genre shrank drastically, and now I feel like I’m choosing between SC2 or no RTS gaming with my friends.

So here I am, sucking it up. In both senses of the phrase. (My based got wiped out by zealot rush in the first five minutes, if you were curious.) If you are interested in playing with me, my Battle.net username is dinhternet. You should also be able to find me through Facebook/Real Friends or whatever it’s called.
