Hacker's Diet Update - Week 10

Time for another Hacker’s Diet update.

Keep going! 17.6 lbs to go!
Hacker's Diet Week 10
Weekly loss: 2.6 lbs. — Daily deficit: 1310 calories.
You will reach your goal of 155 lbs on 2009-04-29. (247 days early!)

So far, I’ve lost 25.1 lbs of measured weight (0.5 lbs in the last week) and 22.5 lbs of “real weight” (2.3 lbs in the last week). When I was doing the family challenge, I had still only lost 15 lbs at this point.

Despite my earlier post, I think the scales so match up pretty well, so it seems that this really shows me what one bad day can do to my progress. I basically lost a week of results due to carelessness. I snacked a lot at Christine N’s party and even had a can of soda when I couldn’t find water at first. Should have had a lot more water and a lot less salty/oily goodness. Luckily, my “real weight” continues to drop, so I’m still doing alright.

Just need to keep vigilant.

Exist To Resist

When I went to Christine N’s engagement party on Sunday, she was playing with one of her dogs after most of the guests had stumbled home/into bed.

Resist!“
 – Christine N, holding a piece of food in front of the dog. Then she would alternate between eating the food herself and feeding the dog a piece.
“Wow, that’s well trained!“
 – James S and me.
“You should have seen his mom. I could hold a piece of food in her mouth, tell her to resist, and then pull it back out and eat it. She would shake and tear up, but she wouldn’t bite it.“
 – Christine N.

Cruel, but awesome. And James S and I agree, we have not seen a dog cry before. I guess we missed out.

I wish I had that level of self-control.

Margin Of Error

I am starting to think that there may be more systemic error in my Hacker’s Diet weight measurements that I previously thought.

I mentioned the pattern of ups and downs I’ve been having in my measurements before, and I thought it was just due to different eating habits and weigh-in times in Sacramento and the Bay, based on the people I’m eating with and my work schedule. However, I am starting to suspect that the scales I’m using may not be giving me equal readings.

I know I ate a lot yesterday at Christine N’s engagement party, but this morning, I logged a four pound increase over yesterday’s measurement, and there is no way I ate four pounds of food. Might need to bring the scales together to see what’s going on, but for now, I will take solace in the fact that the program is still working, even if I might be a week behind where I thought I was.
