Solicitation

Wow, it has been forever since I posted. That Post-a-Day 2011 Challenge counter is a joke at this point.

Lately, I’ve been toning down my online presence a lot. Turned up the privacy settings on most social networking (including accidentally turning off my Facebook Wall). Quit some other sites entirely. Turned on registered-only read access here, which you know since you are reading this. (Although only one person has said anything to me about the dearth of content on this site. This post is for you, Alison W.)

I’m not sure why I’m becoming withdrawn online, but I think a big part of it is just the rut of my current life/job. I have nothing to say, nothing to do. I barely even see other people anymore. And I don’t want people to see that, so I avoid letting them peek through the windows, so to speak. I’m not sure if the curtains will remain drawn, but the blogging part of my life might just be over. As I straddle the fence on that, if you want a look at my life, you’ll have to ring the doorbell.

Dark Matter Of The Web

So I finally watched The Social Network today. Gave it a 710 (“Good”) on Jinni.

I have to admit, I was biased against the movie for daring to us my favorite song in their trailer:

I don’t know, but I’m interested to find out how accurate the movie (and the book) are, especially the origin stories for both Facebook and Napster. Is all human progress really sublimated sexual energy?

Nerdiest thought that crossed my mind while watching the movie? vim is better than emacs.

I both love and hate the attention that IP law gets in this movie. I mean, it’s awesome that IP law plays a part in a major movie, but it’s used as a weapon of jealousy and vengeance, not as a tool of progress.

Anyway, now I just need to watch Black Swan to knock out my Oscars Best Picture catch-up.

Asynchronous

Feeling a little bit out of it this morning. Bit of a mind/body mismatch, since my body seems to good to go, but my mind is lagging behind.

I blame the downstairs neighbors, who must have literally partied until 7 in the morning. I first woke up around 5 to my pillow reverberating from bass and had trouble falling back asleep since. I thought about calling the police. Then I thought about going Batman on them. But I’m usually a pretty heavy sleeper, so I thought I’d just slip back into REM and let it be.

It only half worked out, so I’ve been up since 6:30 fixing random niggles on my computer. In fact, this post is a test of whether I’ve gotten the Twitter -> Facebook connection working again.

Anyway, time to get to work. Good thing no one’s safety depends on my higher-level functioning this morning.
