My next FormSpring question is,
“If catastrophe struck and you had to flee your home, what items would you grab and why?”
Assuming all my loved ones made it out safely, I would definitely save my photo albums and if possible, my computer. I’ve never been one to get attached to any of the houses I’ve lived in, and all of my possessions can be replaced, but I would never want to lose my memories. I believe that I am an aggregate of all my thoughts and actions, so every picture is another step towards becoming the current me.
I keep telling myself I should scan and save my physical photographs, but I never get around to it. Maybe I should just use a scanning service. Having all my hard copies in one place with no backup is pretty dangerous.
When the hard drives on my last computer died, I was heart-broken. Luckily, I was able to recover some of my pictures, but I’ll always miss the older ones that are lost forever now. I would get the photos over the computer, though, because there’s still a chance I can get get my hard drive restored, but I’d never be able to put ashes back together.
I can’t wait for the day when storage and bandwidth is so cheap that I can have all my important files safely in cloud storage. When that time comes, I have no idea what I would save from my burning house. But I would be curious about why my house keeps burning down.
