When I was dropping off Becca Y at her house after Lillian L’s birthday a couple of weeks ago, we were talking about our reasons for not drinking and she told me I had a lot of self-control to give up alcohol and meat.
I actually think I have really bad self-control. I think I’m being realistic. I’m not trying to achieve Batman/“He’s a robot!” status.
It’s incredibly hard for me to pass up meat and alcohol. It’s hard for me to not get seconds or not have a cookie. It’s hard to not play games or hang out instead of study. It’s hard to read a textbook instead of a good novel. It’s hard to turn the TV off.
But that’s why I want to test myself. I want to see just how much control I have.
What are some of the things you have a hard time stopping yourself from doing? And what methods do you use to try to stop?
Caffeine — told a close friend that I promised to give it up. Kept my word even 5 years after we stopped talking. Now only recently have I had a vodka red bull or silver back from time to time.
Thanks for the comment, Mr. Keith.
How hard was it for you to give it up? Were you a caffeine fiend before? Any techniques you used to avoid caffeine?
