Hacker Diet Update - Week 1

Looks like a neigh­bor just put up an unse­cured wire­less net­work. It’s as slow as dial-​up, but good enough to post this update on the diet.

Hacker's Diet Week 1

Weekly loss: 0.8 lbs. — Daily deficit: 408 calo­ries.
You will reach your goal of 155 lbs on 2009-​12-​11. (21 days early!)

The trend line isn’t com­pletely accu­rate; it’s just a mov­ing aver­age of my weight rather than an actual mea­sure of my fat. (It’s hard to tell, but my most recent weigh-​in was at 192.7, but the trend line thinks that I’m still at 194.2.) How­ever, I know that it will help in the long run since it will smooth out the daily ups and downs. Also, I missed a weigh-​in on the 4th, and the chart doesn’t show the gap. Sup­pos­edly the trend line does account for it, though, and I sup­pose one day with a .3 lb dif­fer­ence won’t make much dif­fer­ence in the long run.

Despite the down­sides, though, the diet plan does seem to be work­ing. The book makes sense, and it’s inter­est­ing to see diet­ing from an engi­neer­ing per­spec­tive. The daily weigh-​ins are keep­ing me focused on my calo­rie count­ing, which is where I usu­ally slipped up in the past. The fit­ness lad­der is OK, and I like the grad­ual increase, but the lower lev­els are per­haps a lit­tle too easy? I just need to skip ahead a few levels.
