The Hero We Deserve
I just got back from The Dark Knight!
The trailer for Watchmen intrigued me. I love the comic, but the pictures I had seen until now hadn’t really impressed me. The costumes looked off. But seeing things in motion and in what little context a trailer can provide, my opinion of the movie improved greatly. The Harry Potter trailer, on the other hand, was quite lame in that it was just the title screen and nothing more.
As for the Batman movie itself, I have to say, I enjoyed it more than the first one. No superhero movie rules were broken, although a couple were bent. Seems like Batman is more comfortable with the split in his Batman/Bruce Wayne personas this time, and isn’t constantly ripping off his cowl in front of people. He didn’t pull the “I won’t kill you, but I don’t have to save you” bullshit that he did in the first one. The bit of homage to Tim Burton’s Batman was a nice touch.
But still, there were some things that bothered me in this movie. Some unnecessary explosions, which I can understand when caused by the Joker, but Batman created some, too. And he’s already too reliant on the toys, which made him weak in the final showdown with Joker, whose only tools were knives. Nolan needs to bring in the “No Man’s Land” Batman, whose belt contains nothing but a couple of batarangs and a whole lot of whup ass. Speaking of which, Cataclysm/No Man’s Land might be a great place to take the series. It’d just be hard to explain the stuff afterwards with Lex Luthor’s involvement. And you’d have to introduce more of the Bat family first.
As for the Joker… focusing on one villain was great, and Heath Ledger really stole every scene he was in. Bale seemed downright cheesy next to him at some points. Ledger definitely did not forget to be awesome, and his bologna might just have a first name.

I too liked this batman over batman begins.. what struck me about Dark Knight was how characters like Gordon/Fox were actual characters, in begins they were just props. This one, you cared for all of them.
And Heath Ledger… freaking wow, i loved his broken insanity. I read a review of batman and the comment the critic made was that Dark Knight’s Joker made you realize how much of a pussy Jack Nicholson was w/ his Joker because he didn’t go there.
Woo.
