Try Honesty

Finally finished Omnivore’s Dilemma last night. I think getting some more books on hand as well as joining GoodReads.com helped motivate me a lot. Had some good conversations with cousins and friends about books in the last couple of days. Nick loaned me some, too.

After reading about all the ways in which our food system is wrong and making us worse morally, healthily, and economically, I definitely feel different about my meals. One of the author’s big points is that we strive for more openness and transparency in all aspects of society, except for food. Modern consumers are blissfully ignorant of what goes into their food and how that food got to them. I want to find a local sustainable farmer to support. I’m thinking about going vegetarian.

Of course, my family had dinner at a steakhouse and we’re going out for dim sum this morning. I doubt there will be good options for me there.

  1. I’ve heard good things about this book. The length does somewhat intimidate me though. Is it worth the day or it would take to read it?

  2. –Jimmy

  3. I’d definitely say it was worth my time.
