You Gotta Fight

… for your rights!

This was the first time in a while I didn’t vote by absen­tee. Back in Sac, I was a per­ma­nent absen­tee, and I signed up as one here in Davis, too, but of all the vot­ing mail I got, I never noticed my absen­tee bal­lot. So I wan­dered over to the local polling place and did it the old-​fashioned way.

In case you’re curi­ous, I’m reg­is­tered Inde­pen­dent (but actu­ally changed it to “Decline To State” today), so I didn’t vote in the Demo­c­ra­tic pri­mary, even though it was open. I never under­stood the point of a party open­ing its pri­mary to out­siders. “Inde­pen­dents” who lean toward Repub­li­can ide­olo­gies could pur­posely vote for the worse Demo­c­rat pos­si­ble, giv­ing him/​her a bet­ter chance of win­ning the party nom­i­na­tion and going on to lose against the Repub­li­can can­di­date. Maybe I’m just game-​theorying it up too much, but I’ve heard worse con­spir­acy the­o­ries sur­round­ing elections.

I did vote on all the ini­tia­tives, though.

So even if things don’t go my way, I’ve got my my ticket to bitch about the gov­ern­ment for the next year. Do you?
