No, I’m not talk­ing about the Euro­pean ver­sion of Elebits.

Rather, this is the story of Star Simp­son, an elec­tri­cal engi­neer­ing stu­dent at MIT, who wore a hoodie with some LEDs on it to Boston’s Logan Inter­na­tional Air­port and was arrested for dis­or­derly con­duct and pos­ses­sion of a hoax bomb. Here’s a picture:

Although I think her moti­va­tions are a bit sus­pect — why was she car­ry­ing a lump of Play-​Doh around with her? — I’m still sur­prised to learn that Boston, where the police depart­ment severely over­re­acted to the Aqua Teen Hunger Force LiteBrites back in Jan­u­ary, did not learn their les­son and still over­re­acted. The offi­cer giv­ing the press con­fer­ence actu­ally said,

“Thank­fully, because she fol­lowed instruc­tions as required, she ended up in a cell as opposed to the morgue. Had she not fol­lowed the instruc­tions, deadly force may have been used.”
