This is bullshit!

A Chinese-​American senior at Clements High School in Texas was inves­ti­gated for “sus­pected ter­ror­ist activ­i­ties” because he made a map of his high school for a first-​person shooter. He sent it to a cou­ple of friends who played on it, and some par­ents found out and com­plained to school admin­is­tra­tors. The local police was con­tacted, and they searched his house. The police seized a ham­mer that was in his bed­room as a poten­tial weapon. No charges were filed against the boy, but he was expelled from his school and not allowed to grad­u­ate with his for­mer classmates.

Excuse me if I’m being a bit insen­si­tive about VT, but this is com­plete bull­shit. Damn, no Asian-​American stu­dent can ever be trusted again. I have a ham­mer in my apart­ment. I should prob­a­bly get rid of it before some­one reads this post and calls the Davis PD on me!

Seri­ously, though… what the fuck are peo­ple think­ing? Oh wait, they aren’t. It’s just another stu­pid ass, zero-​tolerance, knee-​jerk reac­tion out of an irra­tional fear. “He made a map for a video game, so he must be using it as a train­ing sim­u­la­tor before his real attack.” That’s horse­shit! He had no weapons! Some peo­ple said, “The kid wouldn’t have gone shoot­ing his class­mates in real life because he could do it on his com­puter.” Also bull­shit! There is no evi­dence at all that he is in any way men­tally unbal­anced! Even when try­ing to defend him, peo­ple jump to that con­clu­sion now. Why does every­one think every geeky Asian kid has a killer inside of him, and is just wait­ing for the last straw before bust­ing out the gun fu?

If the kid is any­thing like me, he made the map of the school because it’s a test of his skills. There’s an old say­ing that goes some­thing along the lines of “It’s eas­ier to draw a ghost than a dog.” No mat­ter what you draw as a ghost, peo­ple will say, “Sure, that’s a ghost,” because no one has any fuck­ing clue what a ghost looks like. But make the dog’s legs too short and peo­ple will be all over that shit. Same deal here… any script kid­die can make a map of some space sta­tion. Mak­ing his school is a chal­lenge. When he goes through it, he will notice when a cor­ri­dor seems too short, or the ceiling’s too low. He can get the details right… this locker is dented, and that wall has graffiti.

Peo­ple need to calm the fuck down, and use some fuck­ing com­mon sense!
