Happy New Year, everyone!
As you may or may not know, January is named after Janus, the Roman god of gates and doors, beginnings and endings, and hence represented with a double-faced head, each looking in opposite directions. He was worshiped at the beginning of the harvest time, planting, marriage, birth, and other types of beginnings, especially the beginnings of important events in a person’s life. Janus also represents the transition between primitive life and civilization, between the countryside and the city, peace and war, and the growing-up of young people. January is supposed to be a time to both reflect on the past year and look ahead to the coming year.
In this post, I will cover only the latter… need more time to collect my thoughts on the former.
On a personal level, 2007 is looking very bright for me. 2006 ended on a good note, and I hope the trend continues. In terms of changes I’d like to see, here are some of my resolutions:
- Graduate!
- This shouldn’t be too hard.
- Also, improve my GPA every quarter I have left. (It’s at 2.15 right now.)
- Be more self-sufficient!
- Get a job that allows me to still study as much as I need.
- Ask parents for less money.
- Be a better room-/house-mate!
- Clear up my stuff and Drama House stuff from the living room.
- Do dishes every night.
- Especially non-fiction and newspapers.
- Get in shape!
- Use the Avalon exercise room at least once a week.
- Eat less junk food.
- Stop drinking soda.
- Drink less alcohol.
I’ll be happy if I can do all that. And I think the sub-points make it a lot more manageable than my previous broad resolutions.
As for looking ahead in terms of the world around me… a lot of bad things happened in 2006, and maybe the 110th Congress will make things a little better in 2007. But I doubt it. Things have been set it motion and they won’t change until after 2008, when a new President is sworn in. But that’s not to say all of the world is completely screwed up. There were significant advances in science and technology in 2006, and the best is yet to come! After all, look at the great Wii games coming out!
w00 to getting in shape!!!! :em18:
