Visionary Road Maps

Oops… I had my first lapse in my new writing streak. But it’s because I was on campus all day yesterday, so you’ll forgive me, right? Right?!

OK, so here’s Tuesday first…

Woke up and went to campus with Peggy, even though I had the day off. In her Gender class, the professor lectured on gender identity formation, which was really interesting. I had my book and a newspaper ready in class I started to fall asleep, but I didn’t need them at all. It’s amazing to me to see how much my psychology classes overlap into other topics; screw the people who laugh at it for not being a “hard science.” Psychology weaves together physiology and philosophy to explain basically everything under the sun.

OK, anyway, after her class, Peggy had to go do an extra credit thing similar to Experimetrix for her Communication class, so I waited outside for her and busted out the crossword. It only took about twenty minutes, though, so I didn’t get very far. After that, we went over to Sproul so Peggy could talk to her counselor, because she wanted to drop a core class she had this term. Saw Pat outside, and talked to him for a bit. I haven’t hung out with the “freshmen” in forever. (It’s in quotes because we got used to calling them that, but they are actually juniors now.)

So as Peggy was talking to her counselor, I was wandering up and down the hall looking at materials for various departments (I kinda want to minor in Linguistics… no time for that, though) and comics people posted on their doors. Saw this one and thought of Sophia C.

Close To Home

Quote comes from Peggy’s talk with her counselor:

Is it OK if I drop CMN 102?”

- Peggy.

Oh, yeah… Palomares is boring, don’t take him.”

- The counselor, after taking a look at her schedule.

Yeah, it’s at 8 AM, too.”

- Peggy.

Oh dear God!”

- The counselor, with a horrified expression.

I’d never imagine a counselor saying that. Maybe it’s just because I came from the College of Engineering, where I was constantly given advice like, “Take this class early… the professor teaching it this term is really hard, but you’ll get more out of it!”

Went home after that. Had lunch and took a nap. Worked on putting up some more posts from the old website, and then Sophia C came over, and it was time to go to the ALA Emigrant Trails volunteer thank you dinner. Went over to the Colleges to pick up Will, my date. Got to Cantina’s and we signed in and loaded up on the buffet food. Clayton, Michelle, Brandon, and Nancy P showed up a little after us. After the eating was done, there was a slideshow and a raffle. Peggy got two free movie tickets, and Michelle and I got ALA beer mugs. Oh, and they had a bunch of Emigrant Trails shirts out, which they told us to take because they wanted to get rid of them all. I think Brandon’s the one who got stuck with the box of shirts. He says he’ll be tossing them into the crowd at the next meeting.

After the dinner, dropped Will off and went home. I didn’t even get a good-night kiss from my date. :( Sophia left, too. Watched some TV after that and passed out instead of doing some reading like I said I would.
