Brown Boxes

Good lord, this is the last bandwagon I want people jumping on.

Let’s see… yesterday morning… I woke up around 8. Read Cryptonomicon in bed until a little before 10. Went to wake up Thuong T, but she was already up. Went online and the first IM I get is from Peggy S telling me to post. So I do. Followed by checking up on other people’s blogs. Including Joz’s, which I haven’t been to in a while. She’s got a post about the world’s ugliest dog. It reminds me of the rat monkey claymation monster from Dead Alive. It’s scary that such a thing could exist in this world.

Anyways, went back to the book after that. That’s basically all I did all day, expect for my brief moment of human contact when Peggy S came over to pick up Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

At 5 I went downstairs to watch Simpsons, and got ready to go to Alison W’s farewell dinner during That 70s Show. I was one of the first to get there, so I helped Alison W carry the food from her place out to the picnic area and got the grill going. She had SO much food! Hamburgers, hot dogs, and chicken and ribs that she had made ahead of time, too. The ribs were awesome, by the way… and a family secret of hers, so if you didn’t come try them yesterday, you’re SOL now.

I had fun cooking and chilling. Quote comes from a random conversation I overheard as I went near Almira V to get a drink.

Did you know Esther P has climbed Half Dome?
Did you know Esther P used to be on the track team?
Did you know Esther P showered in the middle of the street in Mexico?”

- Almira V.

Are you playing ‘Two Truths and a Lie’ ?”

- Me.

Sorry Esther P, but all of those things seem very implausible.

Oh, and if I could record sound effects, I would have a second quote from when Esther P bonked herself and then Dorothea C on the head with an empty water bottle and asked everyone around them which sounded hollower.

Soon, it got dark and people slowly wandered home. The remainder of the APhiO crowd went with Alice C over to Thoreau to check out her KHOP living space. It’s nice, except for the current lack of AC.

Then back to the picnic area, and we decided to go to Café Bernardo’s, since I still owed Alison W a wikki from our birthdays. :) We got there just at last call, and got five wikkis with only three IDs. And then the bartender forgot to charge us. Or maybe he was just hitting on Dorothea C in her hot Doraemon shirt. No one actually downed their drink with me, though. I was sad… you ruin the wikki by not downing it! Well, not “ruin,” but it definitely tastes best if you down it immediately, giving the ingredients no time to settle and separate.

Oh, and I know all the ingredients except for one now! The bartender use vodka, (some other clear liquor) gin, white tequila, triple sec, clear rum, amaretto, orange juice, pineapple juice, cranberry juice, and 151 in the straw. And this one didn’t bother with the jigger; he just poured straight from the bottle into the straws. (He did have a pourer on the bottle, though. It would be MAD skillz if he didn’t.) I’m guessing the last item is either more vodka, or maybe gin. I’m gonna have to experiment.

After the wikki’s, I think originally the plan was to go to Sophia’s, but interest seemed low, so we all went home. Took a shower, and then chatted online with Peggy S until sunrise.

Best of luck to you in LA, Alison W!
