Why Don't You Get A Job?

OK, got internet very briefly while my sister eats, and then I have to give it back to her to make a PowerPoint slideshow for the reception tomorrow. At Drew’s request, here’s a crash course in Viet family titles: Ong Ngoai is maternal grandfather. Ba Ngoai is maternal grandmother. Ong Ba Ngoai means both of them. Di means aunt. Cau means uncle. Duong means uncle-in-law. Anh means older brother, but it also applies to older male cousins. Chi means older sister, but it also applies to older female cousins. I think that’s all the terms you need. Stupid non-Viet speakers.

So anyway, continuing the saga, here’s my Monday. I woke up a little before 9, and all the cousins sprawled across the living room where we crashed were all still asleep. I felt a bit freakish about my sleeping patterns. I mean, I tend to stay up later and consistently wake up earliest. But then again, it’s been like this at every family reunion. Wait… that doesn’t make me not weird. It just makes me weird all my life. :)

Anyways, since everyone was still asleep, went back online. Got on AIM Express and said good morning to some folks back in Davis before they left for their 8 AM classes. Also read some Xangas and wrote a post. The little cousins slowly started getting up, and we discoverd that Anh Bi’s Bacardi and Coke was a little strong for Nick’s tastes, and he had hugged the toilet and then passed out next to it the whole night.

After we all were up, caravaned over to Di Hai’s house, and we were all starving, so Di hai baked three frozen pizzas, and we had leftover bagels while we waited for them to finish. Some of the kids were still hungry after that, so she ordered four more from Domino’s. It was crazy how much the little munchkins can pack down!

Just chilled afterwards, mostly playing card games like Spoons (with pens) and Egyptian War. Got a random call from Peggy because she needed directions to Arden. Oh yeah, and there was a huge thunderstorm outside, and Ginger, Di Hai’s super hyper Yorkie, went nuts and barked like crazy with every thunderclap. That was kinda annoying. Quote comes from a random conversation we had in the living room right before dinner -

So did you guys meet Molly?”

- Di Hai to Anh Bi and me.

Yeah, why?”

- Anh Bi and me.

She’s older you know. And a lawyer.”

- Di Hai.

Uh… I’m not looking for a sugar momma.”

- Me.

Oh, really? She’s alright.”

- Anh Bi, at the same time.

Yeah, she makes $1,700 a week, and she’s only an intern right now.”

- Uncle Kurt.

Hmm… I’d like to check out her assets.”

- Anh Bi.

Man, he’s shameless. He keeps talking about how he wants a hot sugar momma with a car to drive him around.

Had KFC for dinner with all the cousins, then Cau Dung took us to Ong Ba Ngoai’s place to celebrate Cau Minh and Di Ngoc’s anniversary with them.

Back to Cau Dung’s place after that. Took a shower and watched Entourage. It’s a pretty interesting show. Chilled in the leather seat in the corner for the breeze coming in through the windows on either wall, and for an extra bar of reception. (Which pushed me to flickering between one and two bars instead of zero and one bars.) I got an IM from Esther, so I tried to call her back, but the connection wouldn’t hold. I kinda heard her, but she couldn’t hear me at all.

I passed out there, but moved to the sofa in the middle of the night so I could lay down properly.
