Slow It Down

Yesterday… woke up to find more well wishes from people. Thanks, guys!

Took a shower and went online. Wrote a post and read some Xangas. Took Genie to campus. James S swung by. I introduced him to Hustle and then he took me out to lunch with Peggy. I actually had phở at Hoa Viet, which I haven’t done in a while. We talked for days… mostly funny stories from high school. I’ll share one with you guys. And it’s not about me this time -

I think we were in our ‘yo mama’ phase then.”

- James S.

More of a ‘James’ mom’ phase. We would say it all the time. We would even end all our stories, ‘and then… James’ mom.’ ”

- Me.

Man, one time I was driving Eddie C somewhere and he kept going ‘James S’ mom, James S’ mom, James S’ mom’ … so much that I started going home without realizing it!”

- James S.

Oh, and I don’t know how it’s possible, but James S has apparently never heard my bird crap story. When Peggy was asking, he thought she was talking about the New Year’s story. (Which I will save for a later post.) Man, we were an odd bunch. :) Thanks again for coming around, James S!

Back to the apartment… watched 24. Wrote another post. More online dilly-dallying. Then Drew called and reminded me that I was doing Bingo Night in Sac 5–10. I had forgotten completely about it. Waited to get picked up for a while. Then Eddie C had to go somewhere, so I asked him to drop me of at the MU. It ended up being Drew, Erin, Randy, and me riding there. Quote comes from the drive -

So where is this place again?”

- Erin, seeing if the Sac folks can help with directions.

It’s the Bingo Palace!”

- Drew.

Wow, it’s a palace?!”

- Everyone.

Yeah, I’m expecting like, Taj Mahal!”

- Drew.

Unfortunately, no, it was plain white plaster building hidden behind a Taco Bell/Pizza Hut combo restaurant. And we didn’t get to meet the Bingo Shah and get our three questions answered. :)

Mo and Willie came a little later. The project itself was pretty fun. I didn’t realize how complicated and high-tech bingo is nowadays.

For most of the time, we sold “flashboards” which are kinda like scratchers. You can win instantly, or you can get a number, and if they call that during the “flashboard round,” then you win. Mo and Willie sold paper, which is just sheets of bingo pads for people to play and mark up. Most of the people there were nice. There were a couple of people who were very picky and superstitious. And some there were a little grumpy. I think the worst part of it was having to sell in the smoking area. That room was like “concentrated Reno,” to steal a line from Drew.

After we sold out our stuff, the manager taught us how to verify bingos in the crowd, because the faster we verify, the happier all the players are. And the faster everyone can go home, too.

After bingo, we stopped at IHOP on the way home after circling Davis twice. Food was alright. I like Randy’s meal the best. :) Then we took a strange roundabout way of getting me home. I was kinda curious about why I was getting dropped off first, since I was in the middle of everyone. Had a strange premonition as I was walking up the door, because there was a car parked near our door that’s just like Diana’s car, and she had just called me during the ride back. But I just brushed it off because that car is there all the time. It looks like Diana’s, but is actually a Suntree resident.

So I stepped inside and saw Eddie C and Joe M sitting around. And then everyone and my moms bum rushed down the stairs at me. :) Wow. Thanks, guys! That was SO not what I was expecting as I came home at midnight from a service project. Then Drew, Erin, and Randy came in, too. Apparently they had done stuff to give away the surprise in front of me. But that’s OK. I was slow, and still didn’t see it coming. :o ops:

There was some singing and some picture-taking. We had cake. Peggy gave me an awesome bee pillow and Mommies (?) gave me a really cool Underdog t-shirt! Tossed around the idea of drinking. But eh… Everyone went home and/or to eat. I went upstairs to chat online for a while. Not that many people talkingto either of us, though. Sorry again to Peggy for upsetting you. I’m slow! So anyways, Eddie and I watched My Wife Is A Gangster downstairs. Except I passed out almost immediately.

Thanks again everyone who came by, called, or left me messages; I had a great birthday!

Oh, and to Merry… no matter how many times you go,

DOOOODE!!! QUOTE ME!!”

did u quote meeee??”

QUOTE ME DAMMIT

I’m never going to quote you again.

One comment.

  1. but you just quoted merry!!

the best way to get quoted is to talk to you nonstoppingly and hopefully you’ll pick up one or two funny/dirty things and remember it.

trust me, merry, when it comes to quoting, I KNOW.
