Take Warning

Do you believe in signs, fate, karma, kismet, destiny, or luck? I do, to a certain degree. I think that there is some force that acts as a general guide in our lives, but whether we fulfill some predestined goal still depends on our own choices and actions. Assuming there is a predestined goal for each of us. If there is… I could use some help figuring mine out. As could, I’m sure, 99% of the population. But then again, maybe many of us do fulfill our destinies, without even realizing it. After all, not everyone can grow up to protect all of Gotham City, but if some street thug hadn’t killed his parents, that never would have come to be. (OK, maybe a real life example would have been better. And I’m definitely not advocating street-thug-ism. I’ve just had comics on the brain lately.)

Why do I bring this up? Just some odd stuff’s been happening in my life. Probably unrelated. But… they could be signs. The other day, when I came back to Davis after having dinner with my family, as I stepped into my bedroom, I turned on the light. Or tried to. It burned out as soon as I flicked it on. Then, just as I sat down in my chair in front of my computer, a frame that was hanging over my roommate’s computer fell down onto his chair.

Signs, or just coincidental fluctuations in the time/space continuüm? Who knows?

Oh yeah… the REAL reason I bring this up… my sister told me last night that yesterday my family went to the temple, and they got soem fortunes told. The priest told my parents that moving to Arizona would be a very bad idea, so now they are re-thinking “the plan.” Dong Ha, Gio Linh, and I are secretly very happy about this. I try not to put too much weight into horoscopes, because I think they can skew your world-view, and become self-fulfilling prophecies, so why risk a bad one? I’ve noticed for some folks it boils down into a cop out, really. It’s easier to listen to some higher force and blame it when and if things don’t go your way. But hey, if this one will convince my parents not to move thousands of miles away from me… I don’t mind.

So yeah… here’s hoping! :cross fingers:
